PRESS RELEASE: Wacom To Unveil New Multi-Touch Sensor System For OEM Integration At CES
Windows 7 ready sensor features improved controller circuit, providing greater precision and reduced footprint
Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, WA – Jan. 4, 2010 – Wacom® announced today that it has begun production and shipment of its G6 multi-touch sensor system for integration with Windows® 7 PCs, featuring an improved controller circuit that realizes greater precision and space reduction. Wacom’s next generation sensor system will be on display and available for demonstration at the Wacom booth during the CES trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 7 to 10. Visitors to Wacom booth 31435, located on the upper level of the Center’s South Hall, will be able to put the multi-touch sensor capabilities to the test on one of the latest consumer notebook computers from HP, the first to incorporate the new sensor system into a mobile device.
As part of the Wacom Feel IT Technologies brand, the new highly dynamic multi-touch sensor system has been praised and adopted by PC manufacturers for its precise touch sensor and simple design. Furthermore, integration with Wacom’s proprietary electromagnetic resonance pen sensor system is easy and PCs incorporating both touch and pen sensor systems can take advantage of more intuitive and more efficient multi-touch PC navigation as well as pen-based handwriting input and image editing capabilities.
The new sensor system combines the touch and pen controller circuits, resulting in a 4x improvement in touch sensitivity as well as a 30% reduction in space over past sensors. Additionally, energy consumption has been dramatically reduced to 2/3 of previous levels (all figures given are in comparison to previous sensors from Wacom).
"Wacom continues to develop its production and project support systems to meet the demands of the multi-touch sensor market for a growing number of Windows 7 PCs,“ said Masahiko Yamada, President and CEO of Wacom. "Our latest technology advancement in this area highlights our commitment to giving our OEM partners a best-in-class solution for a computing experience that is as natural as it is intuitive."
