Among its many announcements at the recent Consumer Electronics Show, one slipped by unnoticed at the time, but has now cropped up on a variety of tech news sites around the web.

Sony's Memory Stick flash card lineup now has a new capability, thanks to the launch of an 8GB Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo with TransferJet technology. (The announcement was hidden in the fifth paragraph of a Cyber-shot camera announcement press release.) Available as part number MS-JX8G, the new card is listed as compatible with the Cyber-shot TX7 and HX5V digital cameras, and allows wireless data transfer - albeit only within a very limited range.

The TransferJet-capable Memory Stick has a theoretical transfer speed of 20MB/second, and a maximum range of just three centimeters or 1.2 inches. TransferJet devices don't require any setup, with the protocol relying on the limited range as a form of security. The TransferJet card effectively allows images to be transferred by placing the camera atop a receiver, without needing to fuss with cables or card readers.

The Sony MS-JX8G 8GB Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo with TransferJet is available for pre-order now, priced at around $100.
