Casio has introduced two new digital cameras for this year's PMA show, both entry-level units with affordable pricing.
The Casio S7 and Casio Z35 are closely related, sharing the same lens, and similar image sensors as well as much of their firmware functionality. Although their 1/2.3-inch sensors do differ, both cameras have effective resolutions of twelve megapixels. The S7 and Z35 share a 3x optical zoom lens that has a rather tight 35.5mm wide angle, and a maximum aperture of F3.1 to F5.6 across the zoom range. Where the cameras differ is in their choice of LCD display, as well as in their sensitivity range, flash range (although this may be a function of ISO sensitivity, which isn't stated in the flash spec) movie mode, and available built-in storage. The Casio EX-S7 has a larger 2.7-inch diagonal LCD panel. The EX-S7 offers a 9.5-foot flash range at wide angle, and has an ISO sensitivity range of 64 to 1,600. The Casio EXILIM S7 can record high-definition 720p movies with monaural audio, using Motion JPEG compression. The S7 also has 35.2MB of available memory as well as an SD/SDHC slot. By comparison, the Casio EX-Z35 uses a smaller 2.5-inch diagonal LCD panel. The EX-Z35 offers a 13.8-foot flash range at wide angle, and has an ISO sensitivity range of 64 to 3,200. The Casio EXILIM Z35 can only record standard-definition Motion JPEG movies at WVGA resolution or below, with monaural audio. The Z35 also has a lesser 16.9MB of available memory as well as its SD/SDHC slot. For more details on the Casio EXILIM Zoom EX-Z35, read our Casio Z35 preview.. The EX-S7 and the EX-Z35 boast intelligent automated features found in a slim and stylish compact design allowing users to capture moments effortlessly. Earlier this month, Casio America, Inc. began shipping the popular EX-FC150 featuring Casio’s exclusive shutter lag eliminating High Speed BEST SHOT Continuous Modes. The new EXILIM models will be on display at Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2010 in Anaheim, CA, Casio Booth #2241. The EX-S7 and EX-Z35 embody the sophistication and innovation of Casio’s EXILIM line. With the EX-Z35, Casio adds to the exciting new line-up designed for the photographer that seeks a high-performance digital camera without intimidating controls and settings. The new EX-FC150 makes using High Speed capture easier. By combining two popular modes found in its predecessor, the EX-FC100, the EX-FC150 is equipped with easy-to-use shutter-lag eliminating BEST SHOT scene modes. By automating Casio’s High Speed Pre-Recording and lightning-fast Continuous Burst modes into five simple BEST SHOT modes, The EXILIM EX-FC150 ensures the shot is never missed. “Casio is committed to delivering high quality digital cameras that produce crisp images that capture life's vibrant colors in detail. Our goal is to create easy-to-use cameras for any lifestyle,” says Toshiyuki Iguchi, senior general manager of Casio’s Digital Imaging Division at Casio America, Inc. “We are thrilled to expand the popular EXILIM lineup with the additions of the EX-S7 and EX-Z35.” The EX-S7 will be available in the spring with an MSRP of $139.99 and is available in fashionable colors such as black and purple. EXILIM EX-S7 Newly developed EXILIM Engine 5.0 Casio has made even further advances from its EXILIM Engine 4.0, which contained both an ordinary CPU and a high-speed dedicated image processing CPU. The new Engine 5.0 increases image processing speed by 30% and produces beautiful images through advanced color reproduction and rich tonal gradation and by removing noise from photos in high sensitivity mode. Dynamic Photo: Make composite images of different moving images Casio has achieved great advancements in Dynamic Photo, a function that creates “moving photos” by cutting moving subjects from the background in images taken with continuous shooting and combining those images on a different still image. In addition to composites made with a still image background, cut-out moving images can now be pasted on other moving images. This new capability raises the power of expression of images. Thus, while increasing the “fun of creating images,” these models will also increase the “fun of sharing images” by making it easy to upload images to YouTube™ using the included software or post them to a blog. YouTube™ Movie Mode Movies can be recorded and saved using the ideal size and quality settings for the world's most popular video sharing site, YouTube™.
