November 4th, 2010, BOULDER, Colo. -- LifePics today announced the beta release of its Facebook Photo Ordering App, which allows Facebook users to order prints of their Facebook photos or photos they are tagged in through any photofinisher in the LifePics Retail Network. The Facebook Photo Ordering App is the latest release from the LifePics OPEN Program, which LifePics launched in February of 2010 to enable consumers to order prints through the LifePics Network from anywhere digital photos are stored and shared. It is the only app that allows people to order Facebook photos through a network of thousands of local photofinishing labs around the world, and pick up the prints quickly--often within an hour--or have the prints delivered in the mail.

"Facebook is the most popular photo sharing site, so the ability for our customers to order Facebook photos to our stores is extremely exciting for us," said Kirk Mueldener, Director General Merchandise Projects at Hy-Vee. "Ordering tagged Facebook photos is a great feature in the app that allows people to order prints of photos they might not have access to anywhere else except Facebook."

Facebook stores over 80 billion photos across 60,000 servers, with 3 billion new photos uploaded every month. Until recently, the resolution of Facebook photos limited the quality of prints that photofinishers could produce. However, Facebook users can now upload higher resolution photos to Facebook accounts, a feature that benefits users of the app and retailers in the LifePics Network who can now receive orders for larger prints of Facebook photos.

"During our initial testing phase for our Facebook Photo Ordering App, the number one complaint we had from users was that the resolution of their Facebook photos was too low for good quality prints 8x10 and up. Now, with the new higher resolution uploading option, that issue goes away," said Vahe Christianian, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at LifePics. "This app will change the way people use Facebook for online imaging. It is not just about digitally sharing anymore. Now, people can print their Facebook photos to preserve and enjoy memories anytime, even when they are not in front of a computer or sorting through Facebook photo albums on their mobile phones. Our new app connects over 80 billion photos stored in Facebook accounts to our network, creating a new revenue stream for our retailers."
