Fujifilm Europe has provided further information on its upcoming FinePix X100 fixed-lens APS-C digital camera, whose development was first revealed at the Photokina tradeshow last September.
The Fujifilm FinePix X100 has a retro design, a twelve megapixel APS-C sized image sensor, a newly developed Fujifilm EXR processor, and a fixed focal length Fujinon 23mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/2 which provides a field of view roughly equivalent to a 35mm lens on a 35mm camera. ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 12,800 equivalents, and shutter speeds from 30 to 1/4,000 second. Exposure modes include Program, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, and Manual, and burst shooting is possible at five frames per second. The Fuji X100 provides two options for image framing: an unusual hybrid viewfinder, and a traditional 2.8-inch LCD panel. The viewfinder is an all-glass, reverse galilean type with 90% coverage and 0.5x magnification, and can be switched between providing a bright frame indication with parallax correction and text overlay, or a live view feed from high-res electronic viewfinder. Through a website dedicated specifically to the X100, Fujifilm Europe has provided a number of new details on the camera. The X100 will feature magnesium alloy top and bottom decks, and metal control dials. The body in between these metal panels will be wrapped with a simulated leather finish. The Fujinon 23mm lens will have a removable metal lens surround, which can be replaced with an optional adapter ring providing 49mm filter threads. It won't include image stabilization, but will offer manual focusing via a dedicated focus ring. Power will come from the same NP-95 lithium ion battery pack that's used in the FinePix Real3D W1. As well as JPEG still images, the Fujifilm X100 will offer 12-bit .RAF raw files, and 1,280 x 720 pixel video at 24 frames per second, with stereo audio. Raw file processing will be possible in-camera, or using a bundled software package based on Ichikawa Soft Laboratory's Silkypix application. The Fuji FinePix X100 should have shutter lag in the vicinity of 0.01 second, and will provide four in-camera film simulation filters: Provia, Velvia, Astia and monochrome. The Fujifilm X100 is currently scheduled to be available from early 2011. Pricing has not been disclosed at this time. For more details, read our Fuji X100 preview.
