PRESS RELEASE: Photographers Ignite Announces Open Call For Speakers
15 Presenters to be Chosen for the High Octane Event to be Held in Conjunction with WPPI 2011 in Las Vegas
Bend, Ore. – December 15, 2010 – Photographers Ignite, a high energy learning event modeled after other Ignite events in which presenters are up against the ticking clock and the automatically advancing slide show. Photographers Ignite is the first photo-centric program of its kind and the second annual event will be held on February 24, 2011 at the 2011 WPPI Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas. The program, featuring 15 speakers presenting for five minutes each, is currently accepting proposals from photography professionals interested in leading a section.
The open submission period will close January 20, 2011 and the selections will be announced on January 21. The event will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas starting at 9:00 a.m. on February 24, 2011, the last day of the WPPI Convention. Photographers Ignite was conceived by Kevin Kubota, of Kubota Photography, and Kubota Image Tools. Having taught workshops internationally on photography related subjects for professional photographers, Kubota was impressed by other “Ignite” format events he had attended. He organized the first edition of this now annual event for WPPI 2010, drawing a full and enthusiastic audience. Previous speakers have included photojournalist Craig Strong, well-known wedding photographer Doug Gordon, Photofocus host and lecturer Scott Bourne and renowned portrait photographer Vicki Taufer. A complete list of 2010 speakers, along with videos from their presentations, is available online.
“The power of the Ignite format comes from the energy of the speakers and the impact of the ideas,” said Kubota. “This whole concept is about digging deep, sharing a story, teaching a lesson, pulling at heart strings, changing a mind, raising eyebrows, or just making people laugh- all in five minutes and 20 slides that automatically advance every 15 seconds. We are eager to see how this year’s lineup of speakers builds on the best from last year.”
Proposals can be submitted at the Photographers Ignite website and prospective speakers are encouraged to submit multiple topics, though each must be entered separately. Speakers must register for WPPI though they do not need to register for the full convention, but must register for Trade Show access. No monetary compensation or per diem is given for presenters. Photographers Ignite sponsors include Kubota Image Tools, AsukaBook USA, Red Boot Design, WPPI 2011, Bay Photo, Animoto, SmugMugPro, Tamrac, Triple Scoop Music, National Photo Lab, onOne Software and Adorama.
