The report, mirrored by a document on Notion VTec's own site, states that the Malaysian company will be supplied with raw materials from Nikon, from which it will create body mounts using its own jigs, fixtures, and CNC machines. Chrome surface treatment will then be done by an unidentified third party, and the finished mounts shipped to Nikon's factory in Thailand for assembly. The relocation deal is said by Notion to be "long term".
Notion VTec already produces parts including lens cam barrels and mounting rings for camera manufacturers including Canon, Nikon, and Sony. Nikon is said to be Notion's largest customer, and is itself a shareholder in the company, having acquired some 10% of Notion's outstanding shares in early 2010.
