PRESS RELEASE: Leading Mobile Analyst Dr. Gerry Purdy Presents at 6Sight Mobile Imaging Summit
San Jose, Calif. -- The 6Sight® Future of Imaging Conference will kick off its Mobile Imaging Summit with important information from J. Gerry Purdy, PhD., Principal Analyst, Mobile & Wireless, MobileTrax.
“The largest selling digital camera in the world sits inside a smartphone. We are seeing sales of more than one billion units a year,” says Dr. Purdy. “Through technical innovations, you can now take a really good photo with a phone, as well as HD video. Users will generate more content with camera phones than all the cameras and camcorders combined. It’s an amazing change in the imaging ecosystem, one that has come about in a very few years.”
In his keynote presentation, Dr. Purdy will discuss trends in mobile imaging, and show why demand is growing so fast in wireless communications. He will cover the balancing of 4G with Wi-Fi technologies, and forecast the demand for wireless data communications coming from both user-generated content such as photos and videos transmitted from mobile devices, and rich media such as downloaded music and videos.
The presentation leads into a Mobile Imaging overview from 6Sight’s mobile imaging analyst Tony Henning, and panel discussions of the future of mobile imaging hardware and software.
Joining Purdy and Henning on the panels will be Jeffrey Cooper, Nokia; Marty Hollander, Vidyo; Margaret Belska, nvidia; and Steve Linke, Verizon Wireless, as well as speakers from other companies.
“In the last few years, camera-phones and their ecosystem have progressed from being the unwanted step-child of the Imaging Industry to the driving force,” says Henning. “Significant growth and innovation in the photography industry is coming from the mobile side.”
A nationally recognized industry authority, Purdy focuses on emerging trends, technologies and market behavior in the mobile computing and wireless data communications industry in North America. Purdy looks at devices, applications and services, and provides critical insights regarding wireless data communications, and connection to the infrastructure that powers the data in the wireless handheld. He authors the Inside Mobile & Wireless column that provides industry insights to more than 130,000 people a week. He is also the Managing Director of Yosemite Ventures, and spent five years as a Venture Advisor for Diamondhead Ventures in Menlo Park, where he identified, attracted and recommended investments in emerging companies in mobile and wireless.
Attendees at the 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference will also benefit from more new information on the imaging industry than can be found at any other executive conference. 6Sight is providing data and expert advice from top imaging analysts such as Marion Knoche of Gfk, Ron Glaz of IDC, Ed Lee of InfoTrends, Liz Cutting of NPD, and Steve Hoffenberg of Lyra. The analyst roundtable will be moderated by noted independent journalist/researcher, Kristy Holch, the founder of InfoTrends. PMA publisher Gary Pageau will present new data from the association’s survey of mobile imaging users. And Lisa Walker, president of the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) will moderate a consumer panel that explores the usage behaviors of social imaging users of all ages.
Other imaging experts providing unique perspectives on the Future of Imaging include social media pioneer, author and investor Guy Kawasaki, who will focus on Social Imaging; digital printing and publishing pioneer and marketing expert Barb Pellow, who will focus on Photo Publishing; and digital photography analyst Paul Worthington will focus on Photo Image Capture.
The 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference takes place June 20-22, 2011, at The Sainte Claire hotel in San Jose, Calif. 6Sight is the imaging technology executive conference for PMA International.
