Port Chester, NY (July 26, 2011) — As digital media collections become increasingly important to consumers, the digitization of old photos is as critical as ever. However once photos are digitized and on a computer, what’s to stop them from disappearing with a stolen laptop or during a hard drive crash? Teaming online backup and access with top-of-the-line photo scanning, MiMedia and Digital Memories are taking photo collections from analog to digital to the cloud, where they are perpetually accessible.

“Even as digital media collections continue to grow exponentially, the average person still has albums, piles of old photos, fading slides, negatives, and shoeboxes of memories that can be destroyed in any number of ways,” said Erik Zamkoff, CEO, MiMedia. “MiMedia has partnered with a trusted digitization service in Digital Memories to make photo archiving a painless process that will keep generations-worth of memories safe and secure.”

Beginning today, customers who enlist Digital Memories to scan photos will have the option to automatically pre-populate a MiMedia account. MiMedia offers 7GB of free storage space to any and all consumers, and Digital Memories customers with media collections larger than 7GB will still receive three-months of MiMedia for free, with a discount on conversion.

MiMedia offers consumers secure storage and universal access to all of their files, including music, pictures and video. While other back-up services offer limited access and sharing portals lack security, MiMedia addresses both of these needs. The company leverages geo-redundant back-up, a web-based interface for in-browser access, sharing capabilities and a patent-pending Shuttle Drive—a plug and play USB hard drive that drastically reduces the initial upload time. MiMedia also presents user photos, videos, and music in an easy-to-navigate and attractive interface.

Founded in 2002 by two brothers in Ohio, Digital Memories is a family-owned digitalization service focused on the consumer market, but with the capabilities to handle professional photo collections. The company handles orders nationwide via FedEx Express shipping.

"We're thrilled about the ability to take the family history from the dusty attic, or shoebox, all the way to the cloud," said Robert Blau, Founder, Digital Memories. “Both MiMedia and Digital Memories realize that digital media is becoming increasingly important to consumers. We make sure consumers can enjoy their photos in a digital format, while MiMedia keeps these photos alive in the cloud forever and makes them readily accessible from anywhere.”
