Eastman Kodak Co. has released a new EasyShare series model, the Kodak M5370 digital camera, which couples a touch-screen interface with some interesting social media features.
The Kodak EasyShare Touch M5370 is based around a 16 megapixel CCD image sensor, and a 5x optical zoom lens with Schneider-Kreuznach branding. The body itself is quite clean and free of protrusions, with relatively few physical controls. Instead, a three-inch touchscreen display serves both as the sole method of framing or reviewing images and movies, and as an input device. The Kodak M5370 includes the company's Share button, which allows images and videos to be tagged for automatic sharing to a variety of social networking and sharing sites, but for one specific site it goes a little further. Thanks to a face recognition system, the M5370 can be programmed to recognize the faces of specific individuals, and this information is then used to automatically tag images to indicate the subjects, when uploading to Facebook. These functions all rely on use of Kodak's provided software to upload content when the camera is connected to your computer. The Kodak Easyshare M5370 ships later this Fall, priced at around US$180.
