Olympus Japan posts (and then removes) info of a C-700 UltraZoom...
Our friends over at the digitalcamera.gr.jp website in Japan have posted a brief pointer on their site to a teaser page for a new digital camera from Olympus. The page on the Olympus Japan website, which has since been removed and was possibly put online early by mistake, apparently gave hint of an 'Olympus C-700 UltraZoom'. It was referenced from a broken graphic link on the main Olympus Japan web page, and the alt text on the graphic suggested the camera was 'coming soon'. Digitalcamera.gr.jp's Yamada Kumio and Impress PC Watch's Catcall column speculate from the name that the camera likely has a powerful 10x zoom lens similar to that used in Olympus' other UltraZoom camera, but with a compact 'instamatic'-style body. A price of ¥70,000-80,000 (US$569-650) is speculated by Catcall.
So - is there a new camera on the way from Olympus? Seems like it... :) All we can say at this point is keep a close eye on the News page, as soon as we have information from Olympus that we can give you, it will be posted here!
