Steve Sanders tries out a pre-production digicam from Kyocera...
Our friends over at the Steve's Digicams website have posted a first-look report on Kyocera's Finecam S3, the diminutive digital camera we first broke news of at the PMA show on February 10th (it was later officially announced on March 14th).
The Finecam S3 is the smallest 3.34 megapixel, 2x optical zoom digital camera announced thus far, and features a stainless steel body, built-in flash and MultiMediaCard storage in TIFF or JPEG file format. There's also an aperture priority mode, variable ISO from 64 to 256, manual focusing, long exposures up to 8 seconds, and a choice of evaluative, center-weighted or spot metering - quite a feature-set for a camera that's nearly the same size as a deck of playing cards!
Steve has a look at the camera's ergonomics and interface, as well as a selection of sample images - note however that as is always the case with preproduction cameras these photos are likely not representative of the best the camera can manage. Indeed, having spoken to Kyocera ourselves we were told that production image quality should make significantly better images. That said, they're certainly still of interest.
