Latest Konica digicam looks almost identical to Kyocera's S3 - but who makes it?
We have now added Konica's just-announced Digital Revio KD-300Z digital camera to our database, and in the process of doing so noticed something rather interesting... The camera looks almost identical in both specifications and layout to Kyocera's Finecam S3, with the only differences we can see being cosmetic, and a slight difference in the weights listed by the manufacturers. The similarity is such that we feel fairly comfortable in thinking they're both the same camera - perhaps the weight difference accounted for by the cosmetic changes or an error in one of the spec sheets. The question that springs to mind is - who actually makes it? It could be that either Kyocera or Konica manufacture the camera themselves, or perhaps both companies have purchased the design from a third party company... If we find the answer, you'll hear it here. :)
The Konica Digital Revio KD-300Z will reach the Japanese market in July at a price of ¥88,000 (US$733), very close to the $750 price announced by Kyocera for there camera (the difference is likely from exchange rate variations). Specifications as announced by Konica for the camera are in the database, and can be compared to the Kyocera specs to fill in any gaps; highlights are as follows:
