Konica digicam we first showed you at PMA becomes official...
We have now added the second of Konica's new announcements, the Digital Revio KD-200Z digital camera to our database... The KD-200Z, which we first told you about back at the PMA show in Orlando last February, features a 2.11 megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens, along with MultiMediaCard / SD Card storage, built-in flash, USB connectivity and movie capability in an ultra-compact chassis.
One thing we noticed that is rather unusual is that the camera doesn't have any video-out connectivity, something almost every other ultra-compact digicam does have (being a feature of most camera chipsets, it usually isn't very difficult or expensive for manufacturers to implent this). At a predicted price point of ¥68,000 (US$570) the KD-200Z could face some stiff competition from other 2 megapixel, 3x optical zoom cameras such as Canon's PowerShot S300 Digital ELPH and Nikon's Coolpix 775, whilst 3 megapixel, 3x zoom cameras like Pentax's Optio 330 and Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P1 are only about $1-200 more expensive. The choice of MultiMediaCard / SD Card memory could prove troublesome to buyers as well, with the CompactFlash and MemoryStick cards used in the other cameras mentioned here being much easier to come by.
That said, Konica have yet to announce the camera outside of Japan, and it is perfectly possible that pricing elsewhere around the world, as well as the camera bundle, could be attractive enough to counter these points. Specifications highlights for the Konica Digital Revio KD-200Z are as follows:
