July 4th fireworks photos! (UPDATED)

Fresh from the fireworks display in Knoxville TN this evening, here's a couple of Mike's photos...
I attended a fair-sized fireworks display at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, TN this evening, and although rain and low clouds threatened all afternoon, things cleared up somewhat in time for the big show... This was my first time taking fireworks pictures with the Canon PowerShot G1, and the results were a little mixed - the reason being that the Canon's minimum aperture of f/8 wasn't quite small enough to prevent the fireworks burning out (probably because of the clouds reflecting all that bright light back). Shortening the exposure time to reduce the number of fireworks visible in the photo helped somewhat, but also reduced the visual impact of the photos...
The evening was still a lot of fun though, and I got some pictures I was pretty pleased with. For your viewing pleasure, two of the best are below. UPDATED 2001-07-05 11:51ET IR reader Ted Backherms attended a fireworks display at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, in Chesterfield, Virginia, and took the following two photos with his Canon EOS D30 and a Tamron 28-300 Lens at 28mm. The first photo was F22 for 4 seconds; the second was F16 for 10 seconds...

UPDATED 2001-07-05 18:33ET IR reader Dave Froning sent two pictures from a fireworks display in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He took the photos with his Nikon Coolpix 990; the first photo was F3 for 1 second; the second was F4.8 for 8 seconds...
