SanDisk / PhotoMe joint venture brings Digital Minilab to market...

DigitalPortal Inc., the joint venture between SanDisk Corp. and Photo-Me International which we first told you about in August 2000, has announced in a press release that it has now brought its first digital photo minilab to market. The DKS Digital Minilab, which is being demonstrated at Fall PMA in Los Angeles, accepts images from CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, CD, floppy disk or Zip disk, and can also scan images from 35mm and APS film, slides or prints. It can create silver-halide prints in sizes from 3.5" x 5" up to 8" x 12", create index prints, enlargements and passport photos, and burn CD-R discs of images.

Users interact with the Digital Minilab via a touch screen display and graphical user interface, and are able to make corrections such as density, contrast and saturation corrections; under-exposed or over-exposed view correction; red eye removal; sharpness adjustment; framing adjustments flash effect reduction and backlight reduction to images before printing/saving them. Additional features include decorative frames, calendars, personalized text, multi-print and identity photos, business cards, combined images, picture-in-picture effect and proof restoration.

The Digital Minilab can create 650 4" x 6" prints per hour (5.5 seconds per print), and costs from $85,000. It is available immediately...

DigitalPortal Unveils new digital minilab at Fall PMA

High-Speed Digital Photofinishing Minilab Combines Broad Range of Imaging Services and Output Options to Deliver High-Quality Prints to Consumers and Versatility to Photofinishers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. Sep. 6, 2001 - DigitalPortal Inc. (DPI), a joint venture of SanDisk Corporation (NASQAQ: SNDK) and Photo-Me International (PMI) (PHTM.L), today introduced the DKS Digital Minilab, a high-speed digital photo printer system. The easy-to-use photo printer is designed for photofinishers that require an easy-to-use system that offers high productivity, fast printing speeds and increased flexibility. The announcement was made at the Fall PMA trade show in Los Angeles where DPI is demonstrating its products at its booth (#706).

The DKS Digital Minilab accepts images from multiple sources (such as digital data from CompactFlash(tm) cards, SmartMedia cards, CDs, floppy disks, Zip(tm) or 135 negatives, APS film, slides, prints) and combines digital technology with silver halide printing to offer superior image quality on a wide range of output options that include prints, CD burn or storage onto other digital media. The new photofinishing system provides features to adjust image quality and minimize waste while offering a full range of photographic and digital services.
