Camera Modes and Menus
Scene Program: The furthest position on the Mode dial, this option offers a variety of preset "scenes" to choose from, depending on the type of subject. Pressing the Menu button displays the following menu options:
- Scene Program: Selects Portrait, Sports, Landscape/Portrait, Night Scene, or Movie shooting modes.
- Quality: Sets the image quality to SHQ, HQ, or SQ (only HQ or SQ in Movie mode).
- Digital Zoom: Turns the digital zoom option on or off.
- Mode Menu: Offers four sub-menus (all of which are trimmed-down versions of the screens shown below under the A/S/M/My Image mode):
- Camera:
- Drive: Accesses Single Shooting mode, Continuous Shooting, or Self-Timer modes.
- Function: Activates the Black and White or Sepia shooting modes.
- Picture:
- Sharpness: Adjusts the image sharpness from -5 to +5 in arbitrary units.
- Contrast: Increases or decreases the image contrast from -5 to +5 in arbitrary units.
- Card:
- Card Setup: Formats the SmartMedia card.
- Set:
- All Reset: Resets all menu settings to their defaults.
- Volume: Adjusts the camera's beep-sound volume.
- LCD Brightness: Lightens or darkens the LCD display.
- Date and Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
- Camera:
A/S/M/My Image Mode: This mode accesses all of the manual and semi-manual adjustment modes. Pressing the Menu button displays a similar menu to the Scene Program mode, only the first page shown has a shortcut menu to three specific menu settings (Quality, Drive, and White Balance). Activating the "Mode Menu" option from this initial screen displays all of the available settings, arranged on four sub-menu screens:
- Camera:
- Drive: Sets the drive mode for the camera. Options are Single Shooting, Continuous Shooting, Sequential AF Shooting, Self-Timer, and Auto Exposure Bracketing. Within the Auto Exposure Bracketing option, you can choose the number of sequential shots as well as the exposure variant.
- ISO: Adjusts the camera's sensitivity. Choices are Auto or 100, 200, and 400 ISO equivalents.
- A/S/M/My Image: Sets the camera's exposure mode to Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, or "My Image" (for a full set of custom settings accessible via a single menu option).
- Flash +/-: Increases or decreases the flash output, from -2 to +2 EV in one-third step increments.
- Slow: Selects the slow-synchronization flash mode. Options are Slow 1 (first curtain), Slow 1 with Red-Eye Reduction, and Slow 2 (second curtain).
- Noise Reduction: Enables or disables the Noise Reduction feature, which decreases image noise in long or high sensitivity exposures.
- Digital Zoom: Turns digital zoom on or off.
- Fulltime AF: Activates the Fulltime AF mode, which continuously adjusts focus.
- AF Mode: Determines where the autofocus mechanism judges focus. Options are Digital ESP (iESP) or Spot.
- Panorama: Activates the panoramic shooting mode, only when an Olympus brand card is in use.
- Function: Displays the Image Effects menu, which offers Black
and White, Sepia, Whiteboard, and Blackboard modes.
- Picture:
- Quality: Sets the image size and compression level. Quality settings include TIFF, SHQ, HQ, and SQ, and resolution sizes include 2,048 x 1,536; 1,600 x 1,200; 1,280 x 960; 1,024 x 768; and 640 x 480 pixels.
- White Balance: Adjusts the image color balance. Choices are Auto, Preset (Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, or Fluorescent), and Custom.
- White Balance +/-: Adds either more red or more blue to correct the color balance.
- Sharpness: Adjusts the overall image sharpness from -5 to + 5 in arbitrary units.
- Contrast: Adjusts the image contrast in arbitrary units from
-5 to +5.z
- Card:
- Card Setup: Formats the SmartMedia card, with an option to cancel.
- Card Setup: Formats the SmartMedia card, with an option to cancel.
- Setup:
- All Reset: Resets all menu settings to their default values.
- Volume: Controls the volume of the camera's beep sounds.
- Record View: Enables or disables the instant image review, which displays the most recently captured image for a few seconds.
- My Mode Setup: Allows you to set and save the function settings for the My Image record mode.
- File Name: Specifies whether file naming restarts with each new SmartMedia card or continues in sequence.
- LCD Brightness: Lightens or darkens the LCD monitor display.
- Date and Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
- Meters/Feet: Selects which measurement is displayed in the MF distance scale.
- Short Cut: Edits the three shortcut functions immediately displayed when the Menu button is pressed.
- Custom Button: Programs the AE Lock/Custom button's functionality.
Playback Mode: The final position on the Mode dial, this mode plays back captured images and movies. Images can be write-protected, set up for printing, and erased, among other functions. Pressing the Menu button displays the following options:
- Slideshow:
Initiates an automated playback of all captured images.
- Info: Changes the level of information displayed with each image.
- Rotate: Rotates the currently displayed image +/- 90 degrees.
