Camera Modes and Menus
Record Mode: Accessed by sliding open the lens cover, Record mode sets up the camera for capturing images. Exposure is under automatic control. Pressing the Menu/OK button displays the following menu options:
- Flash Mode: Places the flash in Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Fill-In, Night Scene, or Flash Off mode.
- Self-Timer: Enables and disables the 12-second Self-Timer mode.
- Macro: Activates or deactivates the Macro shooting mode.
- Drive: Turns Continuous Shooting on or off.
- Exposure Compensation: Lightens or darkens the exposure from +2 to -2 exposure equivalents (EV) in one-half-step increments.
- Image Quality: Sets the resolution size and image quality. Choices are SHQ (1,280 x 960 pixels), HQ (1,280 x 960 pixels), and SQ (640 x 480 pixels).
- White Balance: Adjusts the camera's white balance to accommodate a variety of light sources. Choices include Auto, Clear Sky, Cloudy Sky, Incandescent Lamp, and Fluorescent Lamp.
- Sound: Turns the camera's beep sound on or off.
- Date and Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
- LCD Brightness: Adjusts the brightness and contrast of the LCD display.
Playback Mode: Playback mode is entered by holding down the Display button while the camera is off (with the lens cover closed), or by pressing the Display button twice quickly while in Record mode. You can scroll through images using the left and right arrow buttons, with on-screen information for each image displayed briefly, including the date and time it was recorded and the image number. Using the Playback menu, images can be deleted, protected, set up for printing on a DPOF device, or played back automatically in a slide show. Pressing the Menu/OK button pulls up the following settings menu:
- Delete: Erases the currently displayed image from the SmartMedia card (unless protected).
- Protection: Write-protects the currently displayed image, preventing it from being accidentally erased or manipulated in any other way (except through card formatting).
- Card Format: Formats the SmartMedia card, erasing all files (even protected ones).
- Auto Playback: Activates the automatic slide show playback, which scrolls through the captured images on the card, one at a time.
- DPOF: Marks the current image for printing on a DPOF compatible device.
- Sound: Turns the camera's beep sound on or off.
- Date and Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
- LCD Brightness: Adjusts the brightness and contrast of the LCD display.
