The images above were shot outdoors
in open shade. The one above left had a gold reflector to Marti's right
(stage left), while the others were shot when there wasn't enough directed
ambient light for the color of the reflector to have much effect. All
were shot with the "Auto" white balance setting, which generally
left things rather cool. I'd intended to show you examples with different
WB settings applied to the RAW files, but the copy of the FileViewer utility
Canon gave me with the 1DS appears to be buggy, as it wouldn't apply any
of my white balance changes to the images when saving out to JPEG. I've
called Canon to see if I can get an updated copy of the software, will
come back here and show you the results of white balance changes once
I receive it. |

ZOUNDS! Check out that resolution! - You can see the individual

This is my standard "far field" test shot of the house.
The detail to look for here is in the fine branches and pine needles
above the house. - You can practically count the pine needles, and
a little unsharp masking in Photoshop brings out astonishing detail.
(Try 0.3-0.4 pixel radius, ~180%.)

The set of "Davebox"
shots above were taken with Auto white balance setting, at ISOs ranging
from 100 to 1250, so readers could evaluate the EOS-1Ds' noise performance
at various ISO settings. |

I included these clips from the resolution target, so you wouldn't
have to download the whole thing to see what was going on.
Pretty amazing, isn't it?
- This is getting awfully close to the best that 35mm film can manage.
Not *quite* all the way there yet, but dang, that's a lot of resolution!
