Camera Modes and Menus

Record Mode: Marked on the mode dial with a red camera symbol, this mode allows you to capture still images. Two "exposure" modes are available: Automatic and Manual. Depending on the mode, different menu options are available in the Record menu.

  • Flash: Sets the flash mode to Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Forced, Suppressed, or Slow Synchro.
  • Macro: Activates the macro shooting mode.
  • Exposure Compensation: (Manual mode only.) Adjusts the exposure from -1.5 to +1.5 EV in one-third step increments.
  • White Balance: (Manual mode only.) Changes the color balance to match a variety of light sources. Choices are Auto, Daylight, Shade, Daylight Fluorescent, Warm White Fluorescent, Cool White Fluorescent, and Incandescent.
  • Self-Timer: (Automatic mode only.) Activates the 10-second Self-Timer mode.
  • Set: Offers the following sub-menu:
    • Auto: Places the camera into Automatic exposure mode.
    • Manual: Sets the exposure mode to Manual.
    • Quality: Sets the image resolution and quality settings. Options are 2-megapixel (1,600 x 1,200) Fine, Normal, or Economy; 1-megapixel (1,280 x 960) Fine or Normal; and VGA (640 x 480) Normal.
    • Setup: Activates the following Setup menu:
      • Power Save: Turns the Power Save function on or off.
      • USB Mode: Sets the USB mode to DSC or PC Cam.
      • Date Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
      • Beep: Turns the camera's beep sounds off, or sets the volume to low or high.
      • Language: Designates the menu language as English or French.

Playback Mode: The traditional green playback symbol (an arrow within a rectangular outline) designates this mode on the Mode dial. Here, the user can review captured images, enlarge them, delete them, or set them up for printing on a DPOF-compatible output device. (Digital Print Order Format) Pressing the Menu button pulls up the following options:

  • Erase: Deletes the selected frame, all frames, or formats the SmartMedia card.
  • DPOF: Marks the current frame for printing, and allows you to establish whether the date is imprinted over the image.
  • Option: Allows you to adjust the LCD brightness, or pulls up the same Setup menu as in Record mode.

Movie Mode: The final option on the Mode dial, this mode is designated by a red movie camera symbol. Movie mode sets the camera to capture moving images for a maximum of 20 seconds per movie (or as long as the SmartMedia card has available space). Pressing the Menu button in this mode simply allows the user to adjust the LCD brightness and access the same Setup menu as in Playback and Record modes.
