Camera Modes and Menus
Record Mode: Accessed by sliding the Mode Switch to the Record position, this mode allows you to capture images with the QV-2300UX. Recording modes are as follows:
- Normal: Sets up the camera for recording single, still images.
- Portrait: Employs a larger lens aperture to narrow the depth of field, keeping the subject in sharp focus while the background is blurred.
- Landscape: Uses a smaller lens aperture to keep the foreground and background in sharp focus.
- Night Scene: Slows the shutter speed to allow more ambient light into the exposure. Night Scene can be combined with the flash to create a slow synch effect in night portraits.
- Scene: Provides 31 preset exposure setups for shooting specific subjects, such as Water Flowing, Fireworks, Floral Close Up, etc.
- Function: Lists set-up menus for all exposure- and function-related items (see below).
- Movie (Normal): Records moving images (without sound) as soon as the shutter button is pressed, for up to 16 seconds. A second press of the shutter button ends the recording any time before the 16-second shut-off.
- Movie (Past): As soon as the mode is entered, the camera records moving images to a memory buffer. Once the shutter button is pressed, the previous 16 seconds of recording are saved to the memory card.
- Panorama: Uses a framing alignment pattern that enables you to record up to 10 sequential images side-by-side. Images can then be "stitched" together on a computer with the accompanying software.
- Interval: Like time-lapse photography, the Interval mode records a series of images at specified time intervals. Three Interval modes are available:
- Standard Interval: Records multiple exposures at fixed intervals, as soon as the shutter button is fully depressed. Intervals range from one to 60 minutes.
- Timer: Sets the timer to record one image at a specific time.
- Interval + Timer: Takes multiple exposures at fixed intervals, with the first exposure starting at a user-set time.
Function Menu: In addition to the Recording modes listed above, there is a full range of camera settings controlled through the Function menu. You can access these settings by selecting the Function icon in the Record mode.
- Size/Quality: Sets the image resolution and compression level. Resolution options are 1,600 x 1,200 and 800 x 600 pixels, with Fine, Normal, and Economy compression settings.
- Sensitivity: Adjusts the camera's light sensitivity to 80, 160, or 320 ISO equivalents.
- Filter: Activates special effects/color "filters." Choices are: Off, B/W (black-and-white), Sepia, Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and Purple.
- Exposure Mode: Puts the camera into one of four exposure modes:
- Program Mode: The camera automatically sets lens aperture and shutter speed to accommodate shooting conditions.
- Aperture Priority Mode: The user sets the lens aperture to f/2.8 or f/5.6, while the camera chooses the best corresponding shutter speed.
- Shutter Speed Priority Mode: The user controls the shutter speed setting, from 1/2,000 to 60 seconds, while the camera selects the best aperture setting to achieve a good exposure.
- Manual Mode: Allows the user to control both aperture and shutter speed, in addition to other exposure variables (except for exposure compensation).
- Metering: Determines what part of the image the camera bases the exposure on. Choices are Multi, Center, and Spot.
- White Balance: Sets the white balance to match a variety of light sources. Options include Auto, Daylight, Shade, Tungsten, Fluorescent, and Manual settings.

- Saturation: Controls the color saturation of the entire image, with High, Normal, and Low options.
