Buy the Olympus 300mm f/2.8 Zuiko Digital
(From Olympus lens literature) An incredible super telephoto lens combines the world's most precise optics with an impressive compact size and weight for the ultimate in performance and portability.
This Zuiko Digital Lens use a precision aluminum alloy lens barrel and is half the size of its 600mm 35mm equivalent so it's easy to carry and use. With 3 ED glass elements for unsurpassed image color and clarity, the 300mm f/2.8 is ideal for shooting sports, wildlife and fashion. The fast f/2.8 aperture allows the photographer the ability to shoot even in poor lighting conditions. Focus response is quick and precise and can be limited to close or far ranges as well as the full lens range. Bundled with a lens case, removable tripod mount, lens hood, front lens cover, rear lens cap and four internal filters (Clear, ND2, ND4, and Circular Polarizer).
For its size and weight, this lens is without equal. To gather this much light at what is the effective equivalent of 600mm is impressive. At this price only the very rich, and those working to make a living (or to pay for this lens) need think about it. Still, to get this range from the competition would cost into the tens of thousands.

Olympus 300mm f/2.8 Zuiko Digital User Reviews

extreme sharp, solid construction, even very good with convertersto heavy, no SWD-SF
the best 300 mm I've ever used, even better the the newest Canon and Nikon stuff.

But it is very heavy for a 300 mm.
Optics nearly perfect! -

IQ and build are outstanding.
Weight is a topic. I had it on a hike of about an hour hanging around my neck. Not exactly what you would like to take for a long walk.
The price tag is ridiculous high. I will never ever be able to afford it. I rent it ;-) -

Did I say wide open f2.8 is a WoW! lol
Yes, and I did carry it around all afternoon in the sun. And it was really rare that I missed a focus.
* Surprisingly easy to shoot with.
