Developers: Fuji helps you add photo product purchases to your apps
posted Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 5:36 PM EST
Fujifilm today announced that it's made it easier for developers to add photo product fulfilment to their applications, with the launch of their new Fujifilm Smart Publishing API.
For the non-programmers among us, API is an abbreviation of Application Programming Interface. Think of it as the glue between the application, and Fuji's photofinishing services. The API by itself won't allow non-programmers to order photo products from their favorite program, but its availability should make it more straightforward for developers to add that support.
Of course, pleasing their customers with the availability of in-app purchases isn't the only advantage for developers. They also get access to an additional revenue stream, sharing profits from the photo products with Fuji. The API allows a wide range of photo products to be ordered, including prints, posters, magnets, postcards, plaques, puzzles, mousepads, mugs, water bottles, and ornaments. In all, Fuji says there are over 40 different products on offer. The API also caters for providing product previews, and Fuji handles not only fulfilment, but also the shopping cart and payment services. Developers will get access to reporting tools that let them monitor their sales, information that will help in fine-tuning of apps to promote more future sales.
More details for developers can be found on the Fujifilm Developer Network website, including code samples for Android, iOS, and other platforms.
