Already turning up on year-end "best of" lists on a variety of photo gear sites, the pocket-sized, 20.2-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot RX100 just reached another, rather unexpected milestone. Time magazine has named the RX100 "Best Invention of the Year 2012".
What's also notable is that the Sony RX100 is one of only three imaging devices -- the others being the Lytro Light Field Camera and Google Glass -- to make the list, which includes 50 inventions total. Other inventions on Time's list include "Indoor Clouds," "Self-inflating tires," and the Tesla Model S electric sedan.
Here's part of Time's write-up on the Sony RX100:
"Sony’s innovative design and 1-in. (2.5 cm) sensor allow the camera to take flawless photos even though it’s 20% slimmer than your average digital SLR—small enough to fit in your pocket."
We, of course, liked the Sony RX100 as well. Check out our review of the camera from June.
