Yet another camera app with Instagram-like filters for the iPhone hardly seems to be newsworthy these days. But Analog Camera deserves at least a brief mention due to its pedigree — it comes from the extremely well regarded folks at Realmac Software.
Realmac made a big splash last year with Clear, an extremely simple and well-made to-do app. The company also behind a couple of Mac apps, like the lightweight photo editor Analog, and website designer RapidWeaver. So while yet another photo-filtering iPhone app may sound excessive, this one has garnered some attention due to who it came from.
Much like the aforementioned Clear, Analog Camera is about speed and ease of use. The $0.99 app allows you to rapidly take photos, filter them, and then share to a number of other services. You can shoot in either a fully automatic mode, select a single point for focus and exposure, or have those separate. Editing is limited to a basic square crop, and then a selection of eight different filters.
Even though the app has only just come out, a few reviews are already popping up for Analog Camera. It's being praised for its speed and simple design, but that simplicity also works against it as the app lacks many basic features: like the ability to use the front facing camera.
But if you want to be able to accesss your camera, edit, and share images as quickly as you possibly can, Analog Camera may be the way to go.
