Dancers Among Us is the incredibly popular photo series turned book by photographer Jordan Matter, where he shot professional dancers amidst the people and streets of New York. Now, with his Athletes Among Us follow up project well under way, have you ever wandered how he shoots these incredible images? This behind the scenes video tracks a day in his life, through three shoots.
Filmmaker Martin Bentsen followed Matter around for a day, as he photographed an actor's headshots, as well as images for both Dancers Among Us and Athletes Among Us. It's a jam-packed day spent zig-zagging the city, but an intriguing look into Matter's process. It's also worth pointing out that Matter seems excellent at dealing with people, and communicating his ideas clearly. Communication between a photographer and their subject is as important a part of the process as posing or lighting.
You can see more of how Matter works here, and more of his incredible photos on either the Dancers Among Us or Athletes Among Us sites.
