If you're shooting with one of Nikon's full-frame digital SLRs and love prime lenses, we have good news: The company has just announced an affordable new FX-format 35mm portrait prime. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is, says its maker, great for portraits, landscapes, travel photography, and anywhere you want soft bokeh.
Sitting nicely alongside the existing AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G, AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G, and AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G lenses, the new optic likewise has an f/1.8 maximum aperture, a 63° field of view, and an optical formula including one extra-low dispersion and one aspheric element. It also includes a silent wave autofocus motor. On a crop-sensor, DX-format body, it will have a focal length approximately equivalent to a 53mm optic on a 35mm body.
Availability is slated for February 20, 2014, with pricing set at US$600 or thereabouts. More details on our sister site, SLRgear.com.
