Head-to-head battle pits the Blackmagic Production Camera against the Canon 1D C (VIDEO)

With the Blackmagic Production camera finally being sent out to interested parties, we're starting to see the affordable 4K video camera be put through its paces against the competition. Most notably, Cinema 5D has pitted the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K against the much more expensive, and very popular, Canon 1D C.
You can check out the entire comparison video below, but there are a few quick and interesting takeaways. When it comes to resolution, the Blackmagic holds its own well—and the universal shutter means that it's not hit by rolling shutter problems like the Canon. On the flip side, as you'd expect from a smaller sensor, the dynamic range and noise levels are notably worse.
However, there is one caveat with looking at this review. Cinema 5D later ascertained that their original review unit had a problematic sensor which showed bizarre white speckling and dead pixels. But given the dramatic performance difference in low light, that hardly invalidates the original comparison. The real questions are if the Blackmagic is good enough thanks to its low sticker price of $3000—and how it'll stock up against the Panasonic GH4.
If you're interested in seeing a bit more of the Blackmagic Production camera used with other cameras, NoFilmSchool points out that there's a video clip showing how the Blackmagic and a Red Epic can be used together in a single workflow.
