After an impressive winning showcase in 2013, with photographer Timothy Allen taking the top prize, the Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) photo contest is now open again to new entrants for 2014!

The competition is open to any and all photographers from around the world with experience ranging from amateur to professional. This is TPOTY's 12th go at this, and they have a variety of new opportunities available to aspiring photographers.

Categories include three portfolio options ('Tribes', 'Earth, Air, Fire and Water', and 'Spirit of Adventure'), Best Single Image within each portfolio, New Talent (open to amateurs and semi-professionals), HD Video and Travel Shorts (two-minute short film providing 'insight into a country or a place'), and the Young Travel Photographer of the Year award for under-18s. For automatic consideration in the competition's overall winner award -- and the prestigious title of "Travel Photographer of the Year" -- you must submit two or more 'Portfolio' entries.

Prizes for this year's overall winner include £2500 ($4188), a personalized iPad case, and a private screening of their work at the international winners' exhibition in 2015, likely to be run for one month at the Royal Geographical Society in London. The entry fee for the main awards is £7.50 ($12.56), and the deadline is October 1st, 2014 -- plenty of time yet to get to work!
