To the beach and beyond: Nikon P340 sample gallery images posted

The clear trend over the past few years in premium compact cameras is larger sensors with brighter aperture lenses that still retain the small and light form factor and convenience of a true "compact". Last year's Nikon P330 marked Nikon's first foray into the 1/1.7" sensor for an ultra-compact, which is somewhat larger than the 1/2.3" sensor found in traditional compacts, and sporting a bright (at wide angle) f/1.8 aperture and a control dial around the lens.
The P340 follows this trend, and the line is noticeably similar in those three respects to the Olympus XZ-1 from 2011 and XZ-2 from 2012, both of which I've spent considerable time with. I had a family beach trip coming up, and the ultra light and portable P340 seemed like just the ticket to tote along.
I'll have a shooter's report to you within a week or so, but in the meantime wanted to go ahead and post some of the initial gallery images for an early sampling. In the gallery you'll find a variety of ISOs, focal lengths and aperture values, as well as a few examples shot with the P340's specialty filters.
Below are a few of the images resized to fit this page, with direct links to each.
Head over to our full gallery page for many more images shot with the Nikon P340 and access to the full resolution images, RAW files and EXIF data. And stay tuned, as I've only scratched the surface of what the P340 is capable of.
