Medium-format camera fans have a new DSLR to act as the object of their desire, with the announcement of the Leica S (Typ 007) digital SLR at the Photokina tradeshow. A strong rival to the impressive Pentax 645Z, pricing hasn't yet been disclosed for this CMOS-based camera, but is unlikely to come close to the extraordinarily competitive price of the Pentax. The feature set, though, beats it in quite a few respects, although admittedly it trails in some others.

We've just posted our Leica S (Typ 007) preview, and have compared it not just to its predecessor, but also to the Pentax camera that would seem to be its closest rival. Spoiler alert: If it lives up to Leica's performance claims, there's a new medium-format speed champ soon to be crowned, and it boasts 4K video capture to boot!

Find out all the details in our in-depth Leica S (Typ 007) preview, and to see how its rival stacks up in the image quality department, take a look at our Pentax 645Z review (which we're hoping to finalize in the very near future.)
