For some, the idea of squeezing their body into a tight neoprene suit and putting their lives at the mercy of a scuba set is the stuff of nightmares. For others, it's the most relaxing vacation activity ever. If you belong to the latter half of humanity and also enjoy taking pictures with your Canon 5D Mark III or Sony RX100 III, these new underwater housings may just be what you need.

Established underwater housing manufacturer Nauticam has created a new 'deep rated' housing for the Canon 5D Mk III, which allows you to take your favorite DSLR to depths of up to 490 feet. That's quite an impressive depth rating, and considering that at these depths water pressure is 16 times that at sea level, the housing has a considerable weight of its own. With a size of 13.9 x 7.4 x 5.2 inches, the "NA-5DMKIII Deep" weighs in at 6.4 lbs. Below is a video demonstration of what you can do with the housing:

Taking a full-size DSLR to a deep-sea scuba-diving trip comes at a price though: $4,100 is what Nauticam asks for the NA-5DMKIII Deep. If you're more into smaller and more affordable cameras, and underwater housings, then the new Fantasea FRX100 III for the Sony RX100 Mk III might be a better choice.

While not as deep-sea-capable as the Nauticam housing for the Canon 5D Mk III, the FRX100 III keeps your Sony camera dry at depths of up to 200 feet -- which is plenty deep for most of us. The housing offers not only a peek at the camera's rear screen, but also access to all camera control buttons and dials. The housing can be equipped with conversion lenses, color filters, underwater lights and other accessories and comes with a built-in moisture detector that warns you should your camera get wet against all odds.

Fanatsea hasn't announced a price tag for the FRX100 III underwater housing yet, but we're pretty sure it'll be a lot less than the Nauticam housing for the Canon 5D Mk III. If you own a Sony RX100 Mk III and would like to take it with you on your next scuba-diving trip, the FRX100 III will be available by November and can be ordered from Fantasea now.
