A week ago, Sony Japan gave us a surprise announcement with the unveiling of the Sony A7 II, a full-frame compact system camera that improved upon its earlier A7 mirrorless with a groundbreaking five-axis sensor shift stabilization system, an improved, more durable design and plenty more besides.

What we didn't know at the time was what the company planned for the US market: Although some other markets provided pricing and availability info, there was no comment on either topic for the camera here in the States. Until now, that is, as Sony USA has now officially announced the Sony A7 II in the US market.

So how much can you expect to pay when the A7 II goes on sale from December 9th? Body-only pricing is set at around US$1,700, and kit pricing with the FE 28-70mm lens at around US$2,000. At the same time, pricing for the new 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM II A-mount lens which we discussed a few days ago was also revealed. This optic ships in the US market from February 2015 at a cost of around US$1,150.
