Travel photographer Brendan van Son has been around the world and back a handful of times in his career. Along the way, he has gathered an incredible collection of photography knowledge. Today, he shares with us a few pointers for choosing the right type of light when taking photographs – particularly architecture images.

Standing in fronton the Capitol Building in Austin, Texas Brendan breaks down the subtle nuances of lighting as the day goes on. Along the way, he explains the benefits and downfalls of each changing of light and even gives examples to compare.

The video comes in at just under four minutes, so it’s a quick watch. While Brendan specifically focuses on architecture photography, the understanding of these light transitions will prove beneficial in any genre of photography.
