Canon has officially released their PowerShot SX 410 IS and ELPH 350 HS cameras, both of which make incremental improvements over their predecessors. In addition to the two new cameras, Canon is also hinting at development on the PowerShot G3 X, an upcoming point-and-shoot featuring a 1-inch sensor, similar to the G7 X introduced late last year.
We’ll start off with the SX410 IS. A successor to Canon’s PowerShot SX400 IS, the SX410 IS keeps an identical form factor while increasing specs across the board. Specifically, the SX410 IS now has a 20-megapixel CCD sensor, a 40x optical zoom and a new ‘Smart Auto’ mode that promises to provide better results in varying conditions. For more details, you can check out our PowerShot SX400 IS overview, here.
As for the ELPH 350 HS, it similarly keeps the same design while modestly increasing specs. In particular, the Canon’s Powershot ELPH 350 HS now features a 12x optical zoom with intelligent image stabilization and a 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of shooting up to 3200 ISO.
The PowerShot SX400 IS is set to go on sale in March 2015 for $279.99, while the PowerShot ELPH 350 HS will be available in April 2015 for $209.99. You can take a look at our overview of the PowerShot ELPH 350 HS, here.
Arguably the most interesting announcement by Canon was that of the development of their upcoming PowerShot G3 X camera. Details are scarce, but what we do know is the camera will incorporate a large 1.0-inch sensor and a 24–600mm (35mm film equivalent) 25x optical zoom lens while keeping the minimal form factor of a point and shoot.
This camera is said to increase the reach and capabilities of Canon’s G-series line-up, but it’s not exactly a hidden secret that this camera is meant to compete against other 1-inch sensor cameras, such as Sony’s RX10 and the Panasonic FZ1000 (RX10 vs FZ1000).
Unfortunately, there’s no information yet on when this camera will make a public appearance.
