Underwater housing manufacturer Nauticam has announced a new enclosure for Atomos Shogun’s 10-bit, 4K recorder/monitor.

Released back in November of 2014, and touted as one of the go-to methods for capturing 4K streams from cameras such as Sony’s A7S and Panasonic’s GH4, the Atomos Shogun can now take its talents to South Beach. Or, more precisely, to the beach itself, with the help of Nauticam’s housing.

Weighing just over 5 lbs (2.3 kg) and capable of depths down to 60m (~197 feet), the housing is designed from the ground up to offer complete control and functionality of the Atomos Shogun when safe inside the enclosure. Besides providing the best view of the Shogun Shogun’s 7” screen, the housing also allows touchscreen access to important functions when needed thanks to a number of buttons and articulating arms that swing down tap the screen in designated areas.

For cables, Nauticam provides a number of waterproof cords and connection points that securely connect the Shogun to its recording device, which would be held inside a separate underwater housing unit.

Changing storage, batteries and connections is simple thanks to Nauticam’s ‘hassle free’ mounting system. The housing uses three locking latches that hold the Shogun in place. Simply twist the latches to both remove and insert the recorder/monitor.

With a constant stream of 4K footage getting pumped through its processor(s), the Shogun tends to run slightly warm. Nauticam made sure to address this issue by installing two cooling fans to keep it operating at reasonable temperatures underwater. The fans, which can be turned on and off, run for 12 hours on a single Sony NP-F550 battery.

For additional security, Nauticam has added a vacuum check and leak detection system to give users continuous feedback in the event a leak happens or seal is compromised.

Nauticam also offers a separate Shogun housing mounting system that mounts the Shogun’s underwater housing directly to your camera’s housing unit.

The Atomos Shogun Underwater Housing is now available for purchase from one of Nauticam’s authorized dealers with an MSRP of $4150.
