One of the most common techniques used in creating macro images is focus stacking. What is focus stacking? It’s the process of combining multiple images with slightly different focus points to keep the subject tack sharp while the background keeps the smooth bokeh often associated with macro photography.

There are multiple methods for stacking focus in post production, but here to show you how to do it in Photoshop is Aaron Nace of Phlearn.

In the twelve and a half minute video, Nace breaks down the basics of focus stacking, sharing what it is and what benefits it provides. He then dives into the process of capturing multiple images to stack together, before diving into the post-production process.
