Another installment of DigitalRev TV’s ‘Pro Photographer, Cheap Camera’ has been released. This time, F8 Photography founder Gary Tyson takes for a spin the VTech Kidizoom, a smartwatch that has a whopping 0.3 megapixel camera, 128MB of storage and two hours of battery life.
After trading his Leica for the smartwatch, Tyson takes a short time to get acquainted with the camera, during which he takes a playful cheap shot at his Leica’s white balance. Once comfortable enough with the controls — or lack thereof — Tyson and Kai get on their way through the streets of Hong Kong.
Both Kai and Tyson seem impressed with the camera, considering what it is. The wrist-mounted aspect makes the camera far less conspicuous than other cameras, even small rangefinders.
Along the way, Tyson shares a number of tips in regards to his approach to street photography and environmental portraits. When all is said and done, Tyson came away with some pretty impressive images, considering what he was shooting with.
