A recent Sony patent unveils the inner workings of a new 28–70mm f/4.0 OSS FE lens design.
Filed back in October of 2013, the patent (translated) displays 13 elements in 9 groups, including one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) element. Also mentioned in the patent is the inclusion of Sony’s OSS (Optical Steady Shot) image stabilization and internal focusing mechanism (4th group in illustration).
There aren’t any details on when we might be seeing this lens, if at all. However, this fixed-aperture lens could very well be the successor to Sony’s standard zoom 28–70mm F3.5–5.6 FE OSS lens, which can be bought on its own or as a bundle with Sony’s a7 series mirrorless cameras.
