A new patent from Canon shows off the optical formula for a 600mm f/4 DO IS.

Originally filed back in June of 2013, the patent displays yet another potential super telephoto lens from Canon that uses its proprietary Diffractive Optics technology. From the illustration, the lens appears to be made up of 19 elements in 10 groups, with one of the groups being the Diffractive Optics element and another being the internal focus element.

Despite some initial concerns with Canon’s 400mm DO lens, Canon seems to have fixed most, if not all problems plaguing the technology in the second iteration of the lens, and could definitely make an impact with an even longer lens in its lineup.
