Profoto has created a series of videos titled What’s the Difference?. In it, Profoto and a chosen photographer break down the difference between two variations in regards to using certain light modifiers. In their latest episode, photographer Jared Platt compares the difference between shooting through a softbox with and without using a grid.

The video comes in at under two minutes in length. In it, Platt shows just how effective grids can be used to manipulate the light in a given image. It’s short, sweet and to the point.

Give it a watch and take notes for the next time you’re debating just how much spill light you do or don’t want.
