Kuuvik has announced the release of Kuuvik Capture 2, the second major version of its OS X tethering software. Designed specifically for Macs, the update brings along a handful of new features and very welcomed tweaks to existing ones.

Kuuvik is confident ‘no other app comes close to what Kuuvik Capture’s live view offers’.

The major update brings along support for even the largest of image resolutions, including Canon’s 50-megapixel 5DS and 5DS R DSLRs. Also included is updated RAW processing, which is said to be 5x faster than before, compounded on top of higher overall image quality.

The interface of the app itself has had some changes for a more efficient workflow, including better focusing assistance, real-time sharpening and even peaking tools to ensure you’re nailing focus with ever shot. New grid and focus-pulling tools also ensure you can make adjustments on the fly without ever touching your camera.

One of the most interesting additions is a new three-point split view (available on select cameras only), which splits up the image at magnified views to make sure what you want in focus will be and what you want blurred as bokeh is smooth as you want it.

Civic has also added support for untethered use of the app. You can import any event into Kuuvik Capture 2 and use it as a more standard photo management solution.
