MindShift Gear has released three new UltraLight backpacks, the UltraLight Sprint 16L, UltraLight Dual 25L, and the UltraLight Dual 36L. These "may be the lightest photo daypacks ever" says MindShift Gear.
Designed to be lightweight and fast, these three new backpacks all utilize a side-panel design that allows photographers quickly access their gear without first having to take off the bag. The backpacks include plenty of space for your other belongings and feature an integrated tripod mounting system. For ultimate comfort, the shoulder straps are highly breathable.
According to Doug Murdoch, lead designer and CEO of MindShift Gear, "All aspects of the UltraLight backpacks were refined with weight in mind, including lightweight fabric, thinner webbing, lighter buckles, and shoulder straps with less padding. This allows the outdoor enthusiast to be able to go farther and faster as they are not weighed down by their pack." This attention to detail and refinement helps keep the weight of the 16L, 25L, and 36L backpacks down to 1.9 pounds, 2.8 pounds, and 3.3 pounds respectively.
The UltraLight Sprint 16L costs $119.99 and has a 16 liter volume and can hold 1 large (un-gripped) mirrorless camera body and 1-2 standard zoom lenses or primes or a compact DSLR and 1-2 lenses. It can also hold up to a 10" tablet or most 1.5 liter hydration reservoirs. There's space for up to 9 liters of personal gear as well. Maximum lens size is a mirrorless 70-200mm f/2.8 equivalent or a 24-70mm f/2.8 DSLR lens.
At $169.99, the UltraLight Dual 25L gives you 25 liters of space and can hold a standard-size DSLR and 1 standard zoom lens (or 2 primes) or a large (un-gripped) mirrorless body and 2-3 lenses. The 25L can also fit up to a 15" laptop or most 2.5 liter hydration reservoirs and 14 liters of personal gear.
With a volume of 36 liters, the largest UltraLight backpack, the Dual 36L ($199.99) is able to hold a standard-size DSLR and 2-4 standard zoom lenses or a gripped DSLR and 2-3 standard zoom lenses. There's 20 liters of space for your personal gear and room for a 15" laptop or 3 liters of hydration.
All three bags are available in "Black Magma" and "Twilight Blue" colors and come with a raincover, removable shoulder strap, and removable camera compartment.
I will be going out in the field with the MindShift Gear UltraLight 36L soon, so be on the lookout for my review of the new backpack! We also reviewed MindShift’s rotation180º Horizon 34L back in July 2015, so be sure to check that review out as well to get a sense of MindShift Gear's features, craftsmanship and design.
