DIY Photography has put together a ten-question quiz to help determine just how good you are with curves.

The quiz presents ten questions, each with before and after images, and you have to select the correct curves adjustment that was used to make each “after” image. The test has been designed such that it can be completed without a calibrated monitor, so long as you understand curves, but it is far from simple.

Curves are a very powerful tool once you get the hang of them. Using curves, you can adjust everything from contrast and tone to color correction.

Check out one of the questions below, do you know which curve is the correct one?

One of the questions from DIY Photography's quiz. Which of the three curves is the correct one? For the answer and the rest of the quiz, check out the link below.

If you’d like to learn more about curves and how to use them, here are a couple of great resources. First, Cambridge in Colour has an in-depth tutorial on curves in Photoshop. Secondly, this article from Photography Life covers the use of curves in Lightroom. Both articles offer great information that applies to any photo software that you might be using, as long as it allows you access to curves.

I found that the shadows were too dark in one of my own images, so I just did a simple adjustment to the curves to lighen up the darkest areas of the image and bring out more detail.
