Kenko Tokina Co., Ltd. has announced a new wide-angle zoom, the Tokina AT-X 14-20mm f/2.0 PRO DX, which joins up against their widely-popular 11-16mm f/2.8 DX zoom lens.
This APS-C lens offers a fast, constant f/2.0 aperture across its 14-20mm focal length (22.4-32mm equivalent on Canon APS-C senors, 21-30mm equivalent on Nikon DX sensors). The lens uses a highly-precise plastic aspherical lens in its second lens group, which is designed to provide improved surface accuracy and reduced reflections and ghost flare. There are also two super low dispersion glass elements located near the lens mount to correct various aberrations. In total, there are 13 elements in 11 groups.
Its fast aperture does come with a bit of weight, as the Tokina 14-20mm f/2.0 lens weighs in at 25.6 ounces (725 grams). The lens is just over 4 inches long (106 millimeters) and has a 3.5 inch diameter (89mm). You can also attach 82mm screw-on filters.
The Tokina AT-X 14-20mm f/2.0 PRO DX lens will be available in both Canon and Nikon mounts for a suggested retail price of $899. Per Adorama, the Canon mount version will begin shipping on February 5th and the Nikon mount version will begin shipping on March 10th.
