Product advisory: Some Canon PRO-1000 printers affected by ink leakage issue

Canon USA has issued a product advisory for certain imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printers.
Per Canon's statement, "In rare instances, ink may leak from inside the printer to the outside of the printer through an opening on the bottom." The affected PRO-1000 units all have serial numbers that start with the prefix "AEGL." For example, serial number AEGL00152.
If you're an owner of one of the affected units, you will be able to exchange your printer for a new printer, free of charge, as soon as replacement units are available. Canon expects replacements to become available around the end of this month.
Affected customers should contact the Canon Customer Support Center at 1-800-423-2366 for details regarding the exchange process.
Our own review unit (whose serial number does not begin with "AEGL") was not affected by this ink leakage phenomenon and proved to be a very good, consistent printer during our testing and received our "Printer of the Year" award.
It is unfortunate that some customers are being affected by this issue, but it is good that Canon is stepping up to the plate and doing what they can to replace the affected printers as soon as possible. It is currently unclear how many customers are affected.
