Nikon has just announced two new compact Coolpix cameras, the A10 and A100.

The Coolpix A100 uses a 20.1-megapixel sensor and has a built-in 5x optical zoom Nikkor lens, providing an equivalent focal length of 26-130mm. For more reach, the A100 also offers Dynamic Fine Zoom digital zoom which provides up to a 260mm equivalent focal length. This slim camera weighs only 4.2 ounces (119 grams) and has a depth of 0.78 inches (19.8 millimeters). The A100 has a 2.7" display and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 3200.

With creative functions that are designed to “make photography more fun,” the A100 gives users easy ways to change and improve their images. The A100 includes eight special effects that are each designed for different subjects and scenes. There is also a Creative Slider which can be used to change brightness, vividness, and hue when you’re shooting. For adjusting images you’ve already captured, there are twelve glamour retouch options and six quick effects.

The A100 includes Scene Auto Selector, Target Finding AF, Subject Tracking, and Smart Portrait mode to help users capture the perfect image quickly and easily. The new A100 is expected to be available later this month for a yet to be determined price.

Simultaneously announced was the new Coolpix A10. The A10 has a 16.1-megapixel CCD sensor and a 5x optical zoom Nikkor lens. Like the A100, its lens is a 26-130mm equivalent. You can adjust the ISO sensitivity on the A10 manually, selecting an ISO from 80 to 1600.

The A10 is powered by standard AA batteries, so it’ll be ready to use anywhere you can purchase AA batteries. When using alkaline batteries, you can expect a battery life of approximately 200 shots. Lithium ion batteries increase the battery life dramatically up to 730 shots.

The A10 has a smooth, curved camera body that has a built-in grip to help users comfortably hold it and reduce camera shake. The A10 is expected to be available later this month for an undisclosed price.
