It's been a while coming, but we have good news, Canon fans: The 5D Mark IV is finally here and it's a ground-up redesign with plenty of improvements to please photographers and videographers alike. If you're as excited as we are for the arrival of the Canon 5D IV, you'll want to stop reading this article now and jump over to our preview instead, complete with the in-depth analysis you've come to expect from IR and exclusive extra content from some of the photographers in Canon's renowned Explorers of Light program to boot!

If you're the kind who likes to finish one thing before you move onto the next, though, we'd better give you the 20-second nutshell overview. So what's new since the 5D Mark III hailing from 2012? Well, inside the Canon 5D IV's new, better-sealed body are a brand-new sensor, processor, autofocus and metering sensors. It also sports in-camera Wi-Fi / NFC wireless networking capabilities and a built-in GPS receiver.

As well as all of that, there's Canon's clever Dual Pixel CMOS AF function for phase-detection autofocus in live view or movie capture, and a new touch-screen display to help you make the most of the Dual Pixel CMOS AF goodness. Add in-camera 4K capture and high-framerate movies to keep the video folks happy, plus the brand-new ability to subtly tweak autofocus post-capture, and it's clear that this is quite the camera!

The Canon 5D Mark IV will be available in the US market from early September 2016 either body-only or in a kit with the EF 24-70mm f/4 L lens. A second kit opting instead for the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens will ship a little behind these, from late October 2016. Pricing is set at around US$3,500 body-only, the exact same point at which the 5D III launched back in 2012. The 24-70mm kit will cost US$4,400, and the 24-105mm kit will cost US$4,600.
