Looking for an all-in-one printer for your home or home office, but don't have a lot of space to spare? If so, you'll want to take a look at the latest generation of Canon PIXMA all-in-ones -- at least, if you're in Europe, that is, since they've not yet been announced stateside.
The Canon PIXMA TS5050, TS6050, TS8050 and TS9050 were revealed yesterday in the European market, and the quartet are said by the company to be around 40% more compact than were their predecessors. Much is shared between the group, with all four printers including both Wi-Fi wireless networking and SD card slots, as well as LCD monitors through which you interact with the printer, and available extra-large ink tanks in place of the standard ink tank size.
The entry-level TS5050 and step-up TS6050 are the most affordable models, with 1,200 dots-per-inch printing and five ink colors. The duo will turn out a borderless 4x6-inch print in around 39 seconds, but the TS5050 is the slower of the pair for document printing, providing around nine color or 12.6 mono A4 pages per minute. It also has only single-sided printing and a non-touch three-inch display, where the TS6050 sports automatic duplex printing, a three-inch touch-screen display, and print speeds of 10 color or 15 mono pages per minute. Both of these models also feature 1,200-dpi scanners capable of a full-page A4 scan in around 19 seconds.
The higher-end TS8050 and top-of-the-line TS9050 opt instead for 2,400 dpi printing and scanning, as well as six-color ink cartridges. These two models are capable of a 4x6-inch print in 21 seconds, but document speeds are no faster than the TS6050 at 10 color or 15 mono pages per minute. Despite their higher scan resolution, the pair are capable of a full-page A4 scan in some 14 seconds. The TS8050 opts for a 4.3-inch touch-screen display, and the TS9050 for a massive five-inch touch-screen. The flagship model also adds an ethernet port which isn't found on the lower-priced models, as well as premium styling.
The updated Canon PIXMA-series printers will be available from October 2016 in the United Kingdom market. No plans for US launch have been announced at this time. Pricing is set at £120 (US$160) for the PIXMA TS5050, £160 (US$220) for the PIXMA TS6050, £200 (US$270) for the PIXMA 8050 and £280 (US$380) for the PIXMA 9050.
