(UPDATE): Fujifilm Photokina Press Conference Live Steam:
"Is 35mm really a full frame? Can full frame really capture the world? I think not."
"Every type of photography has its own best format and aspect ratio. I’d like to introduce to you today a new format and new camera system from Fujifilm.
The name is GFX.
X-series with its APS-C sensor is focused on compactness and portability and for many has brought back the joy of photography.
GF-X with its large sensor size will bring back that joy of photogrpaphy with its ultimate image quality.
X and GFX are two systems that complement each other perfectly."
"Name of G comes from Medium Format heritage. 43.8 x 32.9mm, and it's 70% larger than 35mm!"
11:27am: "This sensor is a brand-new, fully customized, our R&D engineers designed it. The pixel size is 5.3um as opposed to 4.1. The inherent ratio is a natural 4:3."
"This new body employs a brand new mount structure. "
"The lens is very close to the sensor, and a new focal plane shutter can go to 1/4000s."
"World's first medium format camera with focal plane shutter."
"Bigger sensor needs superior quality glass. We believe our G lenses will last for decades, and are designed to be sharp at any aperture."
